Overview:

We are seeking an Environmental Compliance Engineer/Specialist to lead the site’s Environmental program through people engagement, ownership of programs, and influence. Provides technical expertise, proactive actions, regulatory compliance, and consultation on program/policy execution. Acts as a coach and mentor to all site personnel in effective environmental processes and principles.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads Environmental Management System and environmental programs and initiatives
  • Champions issue resolutions and environmental improvement efforts.
  • Maintains site compliance to local, provincial and federal environmental regulations and keep up-to-date knowledge of evolving legislation
  • Interfaces with regulatory agencies to ensure permits, licenses, reporting, and responses are accurate and completed appropriately.
  • Assesses and develops EHS programs and strategies to ensure continued compliance, continual improvement, reasonableness, and practical execution.
  • Manages site sustainability and regulatory reporting (NPRI, GHG, annual reports, approval).
  • Engages all levels of the organization around environment.
  • Responsible for environmental training and promoting environmental awareness across site

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree Engineering and/or Environment (will consider experience in lieu of degree).
  • 5+ years of experience required in manufacturing (pharmaceuticals, chemicals, or refining).
  • ISO 14001 certification recommended.
  • Experience in leading improvement efforts/projects in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Waste and air permitting experience/knowledge desired.
  • Experience with Regulatory Agency interactions.
  • Strong leadership competencies and ability to champion issues, ideas, and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Environmental regulations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to lead influentially, high level of ownership, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
