LOCATION - Wilmington, DE or Auburn Hills, MI - Hybrid

The CAE group consists of engineers who apply state-of-the-art computer modeling techniques utilizing world-class mechanical testing to support customer applications with predictive material models and design guidance.

  • Simulation - perform stress analysis on structural parts and develop understanding of processing simulation techniques and application of advanced material models for customer simulation support
  • Advanced material modeling - calibrate and validate isotropic and anisotropic
  • material models on a variety of materials for static and complex loading scenarios such as thermo-mechanical, impact, vibration, creep, and fatigue
  • Integration with lab - develop an understanding of sample workflow and lab measurements from pellet to test data
  • Data processing - clean and convert raw data for material model calibration and validation
  • Translate results - effective communication across cross-functional teams or customers

Qualifications:

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, material science, or related field required. Masters degree or PH.D preferred 
  • 0-5 years working experience in noted required knowledge
  • Mechanical Simulation
    • Experience in structural analysis using commercial FEA tools such as Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Ansys, or HyperWorks preferred
    • Familiarity with multi-scale modeling software such as Digimat preferred
    • Familiarity with polymer processing effects on component behavior
  • Material Modeling
    • Fundamental understanding of failure of fiber reinforced composites under following scenarios:
      • time- and temperature-dependence (creep, relaxation, strain-rate)
      • cycling loading (fatigue
      • thermal cycling (expansion and shrinkage)
      • heat transfer (conduction)
    • Strong background in MS Excel and familiarity with Matlab a plus
    • Exposure to principles of designing with plastics, basic understanding of injection molding and machine learning experience are a plus
  • Communication
    • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects with cross-functional teams
    • Demonstrated written and oral communications skills, including facility with MS Word and PowerPoint
    • Demonstrated interpersonal and people development skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a respectful manner in a diverse work environment
      • Demonstrated ability to work in an orderly and timely manner
