Overview:

To support the facility’s electrical requirements by installing, maintaining, and repairing plant equipment in a safe, timely, and high‑quality manner.

Responsibilities:

Safety

  • Follows safe work practices as set forth by company standards, NFPA, and other codes in electrically classified areas.
  • Uses Lock, Tag, Clear and Try procedure and other safe work procedures before beginning work on equipment and systems.

Maintenance Task

  • Overhauls production and process equipment on coating lines, solvent lines, slitting machines and utility services.
  • Tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electronic equipment and electrical circuits as required by using specialized instruments such as multi-meters, clamp-on ammeters, oscilloscopes and frequency meters and computers. Installs specialized troubleshooting equipment for diagnostics.
  • Troubleshoots process control computer systems, including but not limited to DCS, PLCS, Control Logix, and RSLogix using portable computers; troubleshoots temperature, level, and pressure control instruments and processors; troubleshoots AC or DC variable speed drives and line speed control systems.
  • Troubleshoots equipment to detect problems. Observes mechanical devices in operation and uses all senses to identify potential sources of trouble.
  • Performs high voltage switching for substation preventive maintenance and repair work.
  • Checks and performs preventive maintenance on motor control center equipment; repairs or replaces motors.
  • Repairs electrical equipment such as motors, AC and DC drives, motor control centers, power distribution panels, etc.
  • Inspects equipment and repairs and modifies equipment using hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, wire strippers, and lug crimpers.
  • Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Performs simple maintenance and electrical tasks such as mounting objects (cabinets, pictures, etc.) to walls, relamping assigned areas, and repairing electrical switches and outlets.

Instrumentation Tasks

  • Maintains and updates calibration records, job procedures, and manuals.
  • Performs ISO calibration on strain gauges, yardage counters, temperature controllers, etc. Calibrates gauges, controllers, transmitters, and gauge system as required; calibrates substation breakers; coordinates calibration of test equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and maintains pneumatic instrumentation, including rebuilding automatic control valves and pneumatic or electronic controllers.
  • Repairs or replaces hydraulic devices such as regulators, relief valves, and flow valves.
  • Designs and fabricates mounting and tubing connections.

Communication, Interpersonal, and Computer Skills

  • Acts as a resource for operations areas to provide an understanding of equipment function.
  • Input data into the maintenance management system (SAP), such as time, material charged to a work order, and historical equipment data. Inputs his or her time into the payroll system.  Uses computer to research and order needed parts and to receive HR information.
  • Redlines drawings to reflect “as-built” or modifications. Communicates changes to schematics from old system to newer technologies such as CAD.
  • Effectively communicates with operations for troubleshooting.

Planning and Organizing

  • Provides information to assist in expediting orders for equipment and parts, making adjustments to equipment bills of material, and identifying spare parts to support plant equipment.
  • Contributes to planning and scheduling of shutdowns and other planned work.
  • Works independently.

 

Qualifications:

Educational Attainment 

Associate Degree in Instrumentation or Engineering Technology preferred, or a completed apprenticeship program and a HS diploma.

Work Experience / Prior Skills & Knowledge Required

3-5 years or more previous industrial or military experience or equivalent.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must be able to pass electrical training classes.

Must participate in regular refresher courses as they are scheduled and assigned.

Must be able to pass CPR training.

Other Skills and Abilities                                     

Must be able to keep abreast of technology changes and adapt accordingly.
